According to a recent survey from Redfin, LGBTQ+ renters in the United States face particular financial difficulties when it comes to homeownership. The study reveals that 23.5% of LGBTQ+ renters believe that a lack of financial support from family or friends hinders them from buying a home, in contrast to 14% of non-LGBTQ+ renters. This discrepancy is the largest among the identified barriers. LGBTQ+ renters also express greater concerns about factors such as student loan debt, with 18.4% highlighting it as an obstacle compared to 11.4% of non-LGBTQ+ renters. LGBTQ+ renters are notably more inclined to emphasize housing affordability as a hurdle to homeownership, with 51.2% stating that expensive homes are a barrier compared to 43.1% of non-LGBTQ+ renters. Furthermore, 44.9% of LGBTQ+ renters identify saving for a down payment as a challenge, while only 35.7% of non-LGBTQ+ renters share this concern. For advertisers, the findings offer an opportunity to engage with a specific market segment facing unique homeownership challenges. Businesses related to financial services, real estate, and LGBTQ+-friendly community services can tailor their advertising strategies to address these obstacles and offer solutions, bridging the gap in homeownership for the LGBTQ+ community.
