Nearly nine in 10 Americans are actively changing their financial behavior due to ongoing economic pressure, with grocery prices emerging as the dominant concern at 58 percent, significantly outpacing housing and healthcare, the latter of which has risen notably year over year. Consumers are not passively reacting but forming lasting habits, as 88 percent report making at least one meaningful adjustment, with the most common being a shift toward lower-cost brands or services, indicating strong growth in value-tier and private label products. Additional behavior changes include cutting subscriptions, reducing discretionary spending, and taking on extra work, particularly among younger consumers, while frequent financial trade-offs have become routine across income levels, including higher earners. At the same time, financial optimism is declining broadly, reinforcing a more cautious and value-driven mindset in everyday spending decisions. Advertisers can capitalize on this trend by emphasizing affordability and value-driven messaging in campaigns targeting the grocery and discount retail sectors.
